My Experience at Amazon
Some Takeaways
Be curious
— Solve for one, extent to many
Balancing pace and perfection
During the winter of 2017, I had the fantastic opportunity of venturing out to Beijing to intern as a visual designer alongside the GPS team of art directors, UX designers, product management, and designers across international locations that provide a superior retail design experience to life.

Amazon was a place of lots of firsts for me. It was the first time I stepped foot on the Great Wall and the Forbidden City to marvel at the splendor of world-class monuments. Also, I had my first taste of the authentic Beijing Roast Duck – 10/10 would recommend. That was the first time I could explain to my parents what I did, and they got it, as well as my first time taking part in designing global experiences that over a billion people would interact with on a daily basis.

Though terrifying and overwhelming at times – I realized how easily designers can get attached and become unconsciously get defensive when faced with adverse opinions. However, it was evident how much more and faster I grew after attentively listening to differing opinions and learned from some other best designers' strong individual sense of aesthetics and be able to conceptualize stylish, elevated ideas.
Design is never done. Although I can't share specifics about what I worked on while my 3-month internship I can say that my experience at Amazon allowed me to give and receive valuable feedback. It taught me about how to design around them, gave me the space to appreciate making mistakes, pushed me to design at scale for a large audience, instructed me how to create better relationships with key stakeholders, gave me newfound respect in focusing on the user, and became a more confident designer.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read about my experience, but if you want to chat about my experience at Amazon just let me know!
